  • real or fake

I've been absent a bit on xanga lately.......been busy  getting the house decorated for Christmas.  Which got me thinking about my xanga friends and what they do for Christmas.

So......inquiring minds (which is me) want to know......

Do you have a real or fake Christmas tree?

Do you put lights outside or inside or both?

Hang stockings?  And if you don't have a fireplace, where do you hang them?

    When do you start decorating?

Well . . .since you asked.

We use a fake tree and it's been around for almost 20 years. We used to put lights outside, but we mainly put lights inside now. We had a few bushes in front of the house, but they were cut down years ago.

We also put stockings on our fireplace. It used to be only for the siblings and I, but lately my mother has been inviting her friends over for Xmas and so she would have stockings for their kids . . . so to speak.

This is Thanksgiving, the entire family was together for the first time in years. So, my sister volunteered us all to decorate the house the day after.

I do not decorate at all.

I might do something this year for the season.  just to cheer things up.  hmm.

I have never had a Christmas tree home.  Have it in office only.  Will hang socks out home and have simple decorations.  Place Christmas cards around.  Feel loves around =)

I don't personally have Christmas stuff in my house, since I am a Baha'i.  I do encourage Christians and secular folks, in their own celebrations, and so have enjoyed my brother's decorated "fake" tree.

I will also enjoy seeing all the Christmas joy in Boston, Phoenix, Prescott and Scottsdale, over the coming month.
    Happy Holidays!

I love Christmas time! I've always grown up with a real tree- my wife grew up with a fake tree. We compromised and said we would switch every other year from a real tree to a fake tree. This is our first year with a real tree, and it is making me feel nostalgic. It just feels more like Christmas with the fresh pine-tree smell in the apartment. This year is also the first year that we decorated outside as well as inside.

I have a fake tree in the attic.  It hasn't moved from its designated spot in three years.  I don't do outside lights.  I don't hang stockings.  I'm glad my boy's still too young to really grasp Christmas or any of the insane traditions most people frantically try to do.  He's still never been to see Santa.  I hope it stays that way.

@Bodhiseeker3 - sounds fun to have the whole family decorate the house

@plantinthewindow - you should put up something Christmasy to cheer up the place even something simple like a plant or candle!
@MichellelyNg - I like the idea of putting cards around
@RighteousBruin - I'm not familiar with your faith ~ does it have any holy days that you celebrate??  When I taught ESL, we had people of all kinds of faiths and nationalities and it was fascinating to hear all the celebrations and traditions
@jmallory - I'm with you ~ I love Christmas!  Enjoy your real tree!
@chronic_masticator - I agree.....some people do go insane with some of the stuff.  But I do enjoy the simple traditions of the holiday

Since I started working emergency services, we have always had a fake tree (could not be certain when it would get taken down... January or March maybe). We would only decorate inside the house.  This is the first house we've had with an actual fire place but before then, the stockings were always hung around the door frame where we told the kids Santa would be entering the house.   Lastly, according to my mom, we would start decorating as close to Thanksgiving as we can.  We start the Christmas baking after Dec 1st.  That about sums up our usual Christmas season.  I'm excited as I'm actually off for Christmas Eve & Day this year.  Yea!!

We're going to start soonish but kids want to get a different kind of deco this year which means lots of cash :/

    Real tree.

We do hang up socks but we don't own a fire place.

Lighting goes all over the place, inside and out...I have children XD

  • WildWomanOfTheWest

Considering we almost lost our home to a wild fire years ago when we lived on a Christmas tree farm, we use artificial trees now.  Those babies burn hot! Actually this year, I am using a tomato cage.

No lights other than the tree. I would LOVE to string them along our ranch entry.

I have a fireplace...but no stockings.  The chihuahuas are disappointed.

We decorate when the mood hits me, no set time.

Will we get to see pics of your decorating???

We had a real tree until the kids went on their own.  Now we have a small fake 4 ft. tree on a table so the dog can't get it.  We actually stated that when we had 3 basset hounds and made the mistake of hanging candy canes near the top of the tree.  While we working, the dogs knocked down the tree to get to the candy canes.    Lesson learned!  We also put garland and white lights on the front porch, lights on a pine tree and a large wreath .

My family always gets a real Christmas tree. I put some lights up in my room. We don't hang stockings, but we have stockings that we put small presents in and just lay the stockings under the tree. I started decorating some today.

We almost always have a real tree.  Which reminds me, I must go to the farm and tag one with my name.  Last year we draped a small string of lights around the little fir tree by the front door.  Other than that, no lights.  We won't do stockings this year, but we always did when the kids were little.  We hung them different ways and places in different houses, but when the stockings  were full they had to lie on the floor or the couch, because they were too heavy to hang up.

Do you have a real or fake Christmas tree? Fake white one, it's my first Christmas living alone I wanted to do something different.

Do you put lights outside or inside or both? Lights just on the tree, when I was younger my parents did it for a bit

Hang stockings? And if you don't have a fireplace, where do you hang them? They are by my heater like below is.. Cute setup

When do you start decorating? I decorated this weekend cause I was off from wrk.
  • atticusfin

@WildWomanOfTheWest - I will try to take pictures and post them

@oldfatgramma - we had a golden retriever who ate all the red bows (left the white ones alone) off the tree.  Yep, never did that again ~ lesson learned!

We have a fake tree  it's a beautiful thing but doesn't smell like Christmas,  one of the local church youth groups sells candles and I buy the Pine ones, they may even smell better than the real thing.  We put fake candles in all the windows and lights on the front porch and around the living room windows mixed with some fake garland.  We do hang stockings on a real fireplace mantel, I hadn't realized how much fake stuff I use until now   I usually start decorating on Mom's birthday which is Dec. 7th.

I also make the dogs wear fake reindeer antler headbands, but if I don't watch them they'll take them off and chew them up .
@WildWomanOfTheWest - tomato cages, what a great idea!
  • Thatslifekid

    We have 2 artificial trees(allergies )

    Lights go outside

we hang stockings on the wall near the big tree

Christmas decorating in its entirety is done on Black Friday.

@mlbncsga - Macy found it on Pinterest. I would love to do an arrangement of three, but will stick to my goal of getting just one out before New Years.

    @atticusfin - Thank you!

  • oldfatgramma

@WildWomanOfTheWest - thanks, we can laugh at it now but when it happened it wasn't that funny......who would have thought that basset hounds could knock over a tree????

  • Doubledb

I am single and live by myself, so all I do is take out a Santa Clause I have and put him on my tv, lol. I go home to my family and they decorate a lot. Real tree. Sticking. Reef of the door, even a Santa village over the fireplace.
